Every once in a while I like to bring you things that are most likely very old hat but still good in their own right. Today that thing is YouTube Doubler. I generally am not one who goes to YouTube on any regular basis. In fact, I generally don’t ever go there unless someone links something that is particularly relevant or interesting (I’m an internet video elitist, obviously). What the YouTube Doubler does, however, is something a little different. Somehow, by mixing together two videos that play simultaneously, side-by-side, the result can end up greater than the sum of its parts. And that’s really all the website does: take two videos, put them next to each other, play. Bam.
So let me give you and example (note, for my website, the column width is too low to have them side by side, so I changed it vertical; it shouldn’t matter much, however, but I want to let you know. Also, since there will be a couple of examples, I turned Autoplay to off. Just quickly hit play on the groupings and you’ll be fine.):

I need someone else to look at one thing for me. If anyone out there could click on the “Books I’ve Read” link to the left, I’d sure appreciate it. I don’t know what’s going on, but, for me, all of the photos associated with the novels do no load correctly. I don’t know what’s going on, necessarily. I might have too many things listed for it to keep up? Who knows. I just want to make sure I’m not the only one seeing it like this. If this is happening to everyone else, I might scrap the whole thing and try to find something else. Thanks!

As some of you may know, I have actually moved from my apartment up north in Snob-Town (a suburb of Edmond) and transplanted myself just a little south of Snob-Town - really about ten minutes - to a condo in Oklahoma City. I didn’t have the internet for a couple of weeks as a result, so that was no fun, but here are a couple of photos of the place as it stands now. We still don’t have everything put away, but it’s only been a week.

I might put up some more pictures this week, but I wanted to get my room at least a little presentable before then.

Something has gone drastically wrong with the 2008 Olympics. I’m generally a pretty big fan of the Olympics, but this year after a short honeymoon phase, I’m starting to get a little annoyed with the way that NBC is handling their coverage. I’m starting to wish that there was some other option for viewing the games. It’s not that NBC is doing much of a bad job, per se, but there’s just a little too much damn Michael Phelps wankery going on.
Basically what’s happening, if you’re unawares, is that NBC is doing everything in its power to pimp Mr. Phelps for maximum ratings. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, honestly. It’s not like they wouldn’t do something like this, but they are talking about this guy so much it feels like it’s lessening the experience. I really just don’t want to hear about Phelps anymore.
The worst part about my feelings towards this coverage, is that I was actually pretty excited to see Phelps win a few medals and destroy other tinier countries with our superior American might. In his interviews, he generally seems like a pretty nice guy. it’s not his fault the media has turned his persona into that of being a douche.
One of the most extreme example that I’ve seen of this came Tuesday night during the Men’s 4 x 200m. While watching the games, I was talking with some friends online, and during the seven minute race, we kept count of how many times they said his name. The count came to 22. Not only did they mention his name every 30 seconds or so (even when he wasn’t swimming at the time), they would put up a little window on the screen showing Phelps as other people where swimming, just in case you forgot he was there for the couple of minutes that he wasn’t on the screen.
But I digress. I’m glad that he and the American Men’s swimming team kicked a faceload of butt (that doesn’t make much sense), but I wish that NBC would just calm the heck down. I want to like the Olympics, but at the moment I don’t like NBC. I guess I will just have to settle for one of those tasty McDonald’s Southern Style Chicken Sandwiches I’ve been hearing so much about.

The last few weeks have been wrought with turmoil, so I have been away from the bloggy scene. Sorry about that. I know that you all have been super pissed (not really I’m sure).
In other news, I believe that soon myself and my compatriot Dan will be starting up a new show. The title of which will be Of Dice And Men, and the subject matter will generally roam solely on the topics of good board games/card games. In the meantime, feast your face onto the logo of the show. We’re hoping to roll this out in the next few weeks.

I know what you’re thinking: “I need a wallpaper of that!” Well look no further: Of Dice And Men (1440×900)

Two days ago I came across the very intriguing and well put together series entitled Carrier, about the life of the crew of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier on a six month tour across the Pacific. This production was created by PBS, so you know it’s great and doesn’t mess around. There’s not Hollywood sensationalist B.S. in this show. The people interviewed are real and they’ll tell you the war sucks if they think so. I’ve only seen two episodes so far (though the magic of Hulu), but within those two episodes is a lot of emotion as well as quite a bit of information on how one of these floating cities works. From what I understand, PBS has all of the episodes online (Hulu so far only has two), so turn off the Denise Richards reality show and watch something interesting.
